Dr. Richard D. Sacks of Ann Arbor, MI passed away from cancer at the age of 63 on February 11th, 2006.
During his life, Richard attended the University of Illinois and finished a doctoral degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1969. Richard proudly joined the faculty at the Chemistry Department at the University of Michigan. In his 36 year career he dedicated himself to educating and encouraging chemistry students, both as a teacher and research director. His research was powered by the students he loved, the collaborators he valued, and the excitement he generated for the pursuit of new and exciting science. His passion, however, was not limited to experimental designs and complex theories. His delight and enthusiasm also extended to a love for art, music, nature, language and a keen in terest in the world around him.
Richard leaves a rich legacy for family, friends, the scientific community, and a world that was truly brightened by his presence. He is survived by his only daughter, Jennifer, and his two grandchildren Wren & Felix whom he would have adored.
